Clydesdale Bank Premier League top scorer Boyd looked set for a move to the Coca-Cola Championship high-fliers earlier this month after Rangers agreed to sell the 25-year-old for a reported £3.75million.

Negotiations broke down over personal terms but McLeish had been hopeful a compromise could be reached between the parties.

However, it appears those attempts have failed, with McLeish telling Sky Sports News today: "It's dead; it's definitely finished now.

"It was disappointing because I thought Kris was ready to leave but it seems that he wasn't and he's decided to stay with Rangers.

"I think, deep down, it was probably a big wrench for him to leave. So, in the end, you'll need to ask Kris the real reasons."
