Rangers striker Kris Boyd will not let the sitter he missed against Villarreal in the Champions League last season affect him when he returns to Spain to face Osasuna in the UEFA Cup overnight.
The Light Blues had drawn 2-2 with Villarreal at Ibrox and were 1-1 in the return leg at El Madrigal when Boyd missed a chance from close range which could have put them through to the last eight for the first time. The visitors eventually went out on away goals.
After drawing 1-1 with Osasuna in Glasgow last week, Rangers' task is equally difficult in the second leg.
However, Boyd, who hopes to return to the team after being rested for their Bank of Scotland Premier League win at Celtic Park on Sunday, will not let that crucial miss haunt him.
He said: "Villarreal was disappointing last season and I wouldn't want to go through that again.
"But it will spur me on to go there and do well.
"You obviously wish you could turn back the clock but the chance I missed was forgotten about straight away and you move onto the next one.
"Wednesday will be hard, but there's no harder place to go than Celtic Park and we came away with all three points.
"We kept a clean sheet as well and not many teams do that and so that has given us confidence.
"I hope we can now go to Spain and get the result we're looking for."
Celtic still retain a 16-point lead at the top of the Bank of Scotland Premier League and are certain to wrap up their second title in a row.
But Boyd insists the Ibrox club, under Walter Smith, will be ready to mount a proper challenge next season.
He said: "We will be back next year.
"We've taken six points from our last two games and they were away to Hibs and Celtic. That says it all for me.
"Keeping clean sheets has been vital in this period because with the players we have at Rangers we're always likely to score.
"I thought the team was outstanding at Parkhead and the result proves how far we've come in the last few months.
"We're only in the early stages with the new gaffer and we're going to get stronger."
