The Scotland international, 24, went through the 50 barrier with two goals in the 4-0 drubbing of East Fife in the CIS Insurance Cup.

His sights are now set on adding to his tally in Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League match against Motherwell.

"To get to 50 goals so quickly was pleasing but I want to go and build on that now," Boyd said on www.rangers.co.uk.

"For me my next target is 100 goals and hopefully I can get that soon as well.

"Hopefully I can get the chance to continue my scoring form at the weekend. It would be great if I could finish off the week with a goal at Motherwell."

Boyd described himself as "obviously delighted" to be made captain for the night as Walter Smith fielded a team including a host of fringe players against the Irn-Bru Third Division side.

His task will now be to keep his place in the side, although the competition for places at Ibrox could mean Boyd is back on the bench for the weekend's clash at Fir Park.

Motherwell will also be hosts to Rangers in the last eight of the CIS Insurance Cup at the end of October, after the teams were paired together in today's draw at Hampden.

The cup tie is a match Rangers assistant boss Ally McCoist is relishing.

McCoist said: "We are now going in against a team who will fancy their chances. It looks like being a tasty cup tie with a semi-final place up for grabs.

"Of course, we will get an indication of what we will face this weekend."
