Bozanic, who has played for the Young Socceroos and captained the Olyroos, came off the bench in the second half at Craven Cottage.

The former Central Coast Mariner was first called up for a Socceroos squad in August 2009 and was included in a 50-man preliminary squad for the 2011 Asian Cup, but did not make the final cut.

“It was an amazing feeling for me to get my first cap,” he said. “I was involved a long time ago so it was great to finally get it.”

Oliver’s father Vic is a former Socceroo who played three games for the national team in 1980 and enjoyed a long career in the NSL.

“He’s very proud of me,” Bozanic said. “Obviously I’ll speak to him straight away and he’s pretty happy for me. It’s great that he’s done it before and now I’m following the same footsteps.”

Bozanic joined Luzern in June this year and has been in stellar form, winning the Swiss Super League Player of the Month award in August.

“I love it in Switzerland, it’s been great so far,” he said. “It’s different to the A-League and I’m enjoying it quite a lot.”

The 24-year old is keeping one eye on the World Cup next year and is eager to push his claims.

“It’s just about working hard and the players keeping patient and hopefully, whoever’s the new coach, get selected in,” Bozanic said.

“Now it’s about going back to my club and continue to play every game and do well. From there just hope to have good performances and prove myself again for the Socceroos.”
