Various football mad corporations headed to Centennial Park on Friday, including the likes of Macquarie bank, KPMG, Oracle, Volkswagen Group Australia, Qantas, AAPT and Sony, but none of them were a match for the country's leading football title.

The group stages of the tournament saw teams battle for a place in the quarter-finals, where Group A was an IT Sector battle with Oracle, CA Technologies and Sophos playing for geek-like supremacy. Oracle's attacking threat clicked in the second round of games and they secured their place in the quarter finals with a hard fought 4-2 victory over the boys from Sophos, while CA Technologies also progressed.

Group B saw Macquarie Bank, FourFourTwo and Qantas Sydney push each other to the limit in a series of exciting encounters. All of the teams had specialist marksmen and the finishing was top class from all of the strikers when they had opportunities in front of goal. FourFourTwo and Macquarie Bank prevailed and it wasn't the last we'd see of each other over the course of the afternoon.

Group C witnessed Sydney City Toyota playing fast, technical attacking football against the teams from KPMG and AAPT. KPMG's fitness and ability to come up with a goal when it matters allowed them to join Sydney City Toyota in the quarters at the expense of an AAPT team that showed some great individual flair in the group phase.

Qantas Brisbane in Group D was the first team to qualify for the knock out stage of tournament with a series of convincing performances and positive results. That left Sony Australia and Volkswagen playing out some tense encounters with Sony just edging the second place in the group.

The Quarter Finals were all exciting contests with Macquarie Bank, FourFourTwo and Sydney City Toyota confirming their places in the semi finals with wins in normal time, while KPMG survived a penalty shootout against Sony to progress to the last four.

Macquarie Bank took full advantage of KPMG's fatigue in the semi final and posted a 5-1 victory to boost confidence ahead of the final. In the other semi FourFourTwo overcame Sydney City Toyota and set up our third and final match of the day against Macquarie Bank in the Corporate Champions League Final.

The final was a superb game with both teams playing some good attacking football in an attempt to seize the initiative and control the game. At 2-2 it looked like a penalty shootout would decide the contest until FourFourTwo poached a goal in the closing seconds of this exciting contest to become the 2010 Corporate Champions League winners.

FDA Director Cormac Begley commented on the camaraderie shared between the teams who participated in the Corporate Champions League: "There was a wonderful atmosphere at the event throughout the day. Facing tough competition and having to dig into physical and mental reserves brings the individuals in the team together - we trust companies will benefit from this experience in the workplace."
