Despite the individual acknowledgment, Feyenoord failed to make it past the group stage however recorded a 1-0 win over Manchester United at home earlier in the tournament.

Back in the Netherlands Jones’s team is flying high on top of the table with just one game lost and only 11 goals conceded in 16 games.

 


 

Feyenoord also progressed to the quarter-finals of the domestic KNVB Cup after demolishing Den Haag 5-1 at home courtesy of a hat-trick from former Liverpool teammate Dirk Kuyt.

An addition to Jones's four Socceroo caps seems unlikely for the 34 year old with stiff competition from the preferred Maty Ryan and second-choice goalkeeper Mitch Langerak as well as Adam Federici who made an appearance for Australia in the 2-2 friendly to Greece this year.

Jones has not been involved with the national team since the Socceroos gave up a three goal lead to lose 4-3 in a friendly to Ecuador in 2014.

The Socceroos’ next competitive game is a 2018 World Cup Qualifier against Iraq in Tehran, Iran in March next year.
