Imagine being the first name on your club’s team sheet, not because of your form though, because you err, have the same name as the club you play for.

Non-league side Bradley Stoke Town FC has signed the aptly named Bradley Stokes as the Bristol and District League side make the most bizarre signing of the season.

“I knew there was an area called Bradley Stoke, so I googled it to see if they had a football team because I thought that would be cool,” the 23 year old centre back told Bristol Live.

After watching a reserve game, Bradley took the plunge and actually moved to the area and joined the football club.

But the club secretary didn't take him seriously when Stokes told him his name.

Stokes said, “He thought he was taking the mickey, and asked to see my ID before filling the signing on forms.”

There was a similar reaction when Bradley was introduced to his new teammates.

“Most of them just started laughing at me, to be honest, they couldn’t believe it," he said. "I suppose it is a bit weird.

"I did get a bit of stick for it, but they have been so welcoming. I have made some really good mates through it."

Club managerJon Welsh added: “He is a very funny lad and has a really good sense of humour, so I think he just intuitively searched his name and then we came up.

"He has settled in very well on and off the field."
