Central Coast midfielder Wout Brama has identified his side’s inability to defend the long ball as a recurring issue after Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Perth Glory.
Brama opened the scoring on 14 minutes, before Perth netted two goals inside the final 20 minutes via long balls through Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart to win it.
“It (long balls) was again a concern in the first game against Newcastle,” Brama told Fox Sports.
“Every ball over the top is very hard to defend. We hold a high line to defend well and stay compact.
“If they’re free on the ball and they can pass the ball so easily, it’s hard to defend.
“We have to drop a little bit earlier. It’s not only the defence, it’s start at the stop.”
The Mariners shaded possession 57% to 43% and had more shots than Glory but let the game slip, despite leading the third straight game after a 5-1 loss to Newcastle and 2-2 draw with Western Sydney.
“It’s like last week. We dominated the game,” he said.
“With possession we were good, but too many times we lost the ball too easy.
“Not good enough, we concede too easy. We lose games.
“Last week go in front two times, today again, and again we lose points.”
The Mariners, who are second last, are next in action at home to Melbourne Victory on Sunday.
