Luke Brattan says he has no regrets about his time in the UK but admits he is glad to be back playing regularly at Melbourne City.
Brattan spent eight months in England after signing for Manchester City in October last year. The midfielder was loaned out to Bolton Wanderers but did not play a game for the Championship club.
Brattan returned to the A-League in June to join Melbourne City. The 26-year old has made five appearances so far this season, scoring one goal.
Brattan believes his stint in the UK has actually helped him develop, despite the complete lack of game-time.
“You never know if you don’t try,” he said.
“I went over there with a clear mindset. Things didn’t work out football-wise but I think I learned a lot about myself on the field and off the field and it’s made me a better player. I’m just glad to be playing regular football again.”
Brattan has made a fast start to life at City, with the club sitting in second spot on the A-A-League table behind Sydney FC.
“It’s been great,” he said.
“I think I’ve settled in well. It’s a fantastic group of players and I think we’ve shown that at the start of the season. We have a great coaching staff, all the staff are fantastic, and it feels like a big family.
“I think that’s the key to success, a tight group, and quality.”

Brattan is in the Socceroos squad for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier with Thailand. The former Brisbane Roar midfielder has yet to make his international debut for Australia.
Brattan believes the Socceroos are in “a good place” ahead of the Thai clash.
“We’re playing some really good football and the boss has got everyone gelling really well,” he said.
“He likes to play a certain way and its been successful.”
