Palermo would take the lead in the first-half on 22 minutes, when Miccoli smashed a shot past Coppola.

Miccoli again was involved later in the half, when his low curling pass found an unmarked Bresciano who slid in to double Palermo's advantage.

But in the second stanza, Atalanta turned the match around with goals from Sergio Floccari and Adrian Ferreira Pinto to stun the Renzo Barbera crowd.

The hosts though, found an 80th minute winner through Edinson Cavani who hit an angled volley into the bottom corner of the net to rescue the victory for Palermo.

Bresciano, who has been linked to a Premier League move during the January transfer window, would have impressed his potential suitors with a decent display and was amongst Palermo's best, playing a rare full game.

The result sees Palermo leapfrog Atalanta, along with Catania, up into eighth on the Serie A table.
