OS AUSSIES WRAP: Socceroo midfielder Mark Bresciano was red-carded after just 16 minutes of Palermo's clash with Catania which ended in a 4-0 thrashing.
The visitors were already leading 1-0 through Pablo Martin Ledesma in the Sicilian derby when Bresciano was sent for an early shower.
The referee was less than impressed with Bresciano's tackle on Takayuki Morimoto and he produced a straight red card.
Catania took full advantage and added to their goal tally through Morimoto (37), Giuseppe Mascara (44) and Michele Paolucci (66).
Bresciano had only just returned from a suspension and now faces another stint kicking his heels in the stands
He is the third Aussie to earn a straight red card in the last week after Jason Culina's on Friday night and Nick Carle's on Tuesday.
In the English Premier League Vinnie Grella's Blackurn leapfrogged Middlesborough out of the relegation zone by defeating Richard Garcia's Hull 2-1 on Sunday.
Blackburn scored two first half goals within minutes of each other to take a 2-0 half time lead. Grella had the first shot on goal of the second half when he struck a bullet from 20 yards out but the Tigers goalkeeper blocked the strike.
Both teams ended the game with ten men as Garcia's Hull finished the game strongly but after a whirlwind start to the season they are now only three points above the relegation zone.
Another team flirting with the danger zone is Mark Viduka's Newcastle. After going a goal down to Bolton at the start of the second half Viduka was brought on to boost the Magpies chances but an equaliser never came. The game finished 1-0 and Newcastle are now only 2 points away from the relegation zone.
Lucas Neill's West Ham are in safer territory and their 1-0 win over Manchester City does them no harm. West Ham scored in the 71st minute and held on for the win despite a late free kick from Manchester City that deflected off Lucas' head onto the post.
In the Turkish Super Lig Harry Kewell played 65 minutes of Galatasary's1-0 win over Konyaspor while in the Swiss Super league Scott Chipperfield is becoming a regular among the goals after scoring the winner for Basel against Lucerne.
Scott came off the bench last week to head home the winner against Zurich and this weekend Chippers again came off the bench with the game locked at 1-1 and headed home in the 92nd minute to win the game 2-1 for Basel.
Elsewhere in Switzerland Mark Rudan's FC Vaduz are stuck in the relegation zone after they were beaten 5-0 by top side FC Zurich while in Denmark Michael Beauchamp's Aab defeated AC Horsens 1-0.
