Bresh looked certain to make the move from Serie A to the EPL at the start of this season with the Socceroo hero even training with his prospective new team-mates.

But a last minute row over his transfer fee - with City wanting to pay in instalments and Palermo wanting it all upfront - scuppered the move.

He had been tipped to finally make the move in January...but it never happened and Bresciano's desire to move left him on the outer at Palermo.

Bresh played in just 25 games for the Rosanero this season and failed to shine in most of them.

Now he's admitted the torment of the missed move affected him mentally - and he has no idea where he will end up playing next season.

But he's banking on a successful World Cup qualifying campaign with the Socceroos to help him resurrect his career.

“My missed transfer to Manchester [City] counted a lot: it has been difficult to bounce back mentally because everybody, me included, was convinced I would move to City but it was cancelled," he told Palermo's official website.

"It has been a strange season for the team and for me as well. I have been happy here in Italy and at Palermo and I do not have a favourite destination to move to.

“I am not gone yet: I have to speak to the club and see if the offers are concrete. For the moment I have 50 percent of chances to stay with the Rosanero."

He added: “No doubt it has been the worst year of my career. Those difficult years help you grow."

“When I started to be able to concentrate, I played a little, even if I had physical problems, but I never lost motivation.

“Right now I am just thinking of finishing well in the league, the three remaining games are very important for me, I want to end in the best way before going on international duty with Australia.”
