Manchester City are still tipped to make a renewed eleventh hour bid for the Aussie before the transfer window closes this week.

The deal with Palermo fell through after City proposed to pay the $10 million transfer fee in instalments, leaving the Serie A club without immediate funds to buy in a replacement.

The hitch came at the last moment after Bresh had flown to Manchester to meet his new teammates and pass a medical.

"I was in Manchester for a week, I was looking forward mentally to being in the EPL,” Bresciano told Melbourne’s Age newspaper.

“I was looking for a house, looking to meet the boys and the staff, but it wasn't to be.”

He added: "It's been very hard. I just keep pushing the club at Palermo. I had a really good chance of going but things became complicated. Now I am just trying to get on with it. It's been very hard mentally.

"When I came back to Palermo, at the start I was empty inside. I know when the transfer market closes, I will be here for another year, so I just have to pick myself up and hope we can work for the January window option."

Now the Socceroo stalwart is looking forward to Australia’s clash with Argentina. He and Vince Grella are among the few overseas Aussies who have so far pledged to return home for the tie.

But Bresh believes it will be an ideal opportunity for more A-League stars to shine in the green and gold, following Mark Milligan and David Carney’s impressive Asian Cup performances.

“It would be good for some A-League boys to get a taste of international football,” he told The Age. "Just coming home to Melbourne on holidays is enough for me, so coming back and playing in front of a full house will be fantastic,"
