BRETT Emerton's World Cup preparations are back on track with the experienced Socceroos midfielder getting back to full training two weeks out from the opening match of the tournament against Germany.
To see the Soccerooss train overnight...
A calf injury has limited Emerton's participation in the pre-tournament camps in Melbourne and Johannesburg but Emerton returned to the track on Sunday in a boost for the team, which faces off in a friendly against Denmark on Tuesday.
Emerton, who has played 72 games for Australia, would be considered a near-certain starter for the opening match in Durban if fit. Jason Culina, who has played with Emerton in the Socceroos' midfield for much of the past decade, said it was great to see the 31-year-old back running.
"It's very good to see him, Brett has got a slight soreness in the calf and he should be alright," Culina told reporters.
Harry Kewell, who is continuing his rehabilitation from a groin injury, only made a brief appearance at training on Sunday and would appear unlikely to take his place against the Danes at Ruimsig Stadium on Tuesday.
Coach Pim Verbeek has said all along that Kewell will be focussed on getting fit for the Germany game and may not participate in either the Denmark match or the match against USA on Saturday.
Apart from that, Australia has close to a fully-fit squad with Mark Schwarzer recovered from the thumb sprain which kept him out of last week's friendly against New Zealand at the MCG.
