The Sky Blues' FFA Cup Final 1-0 loss to City which occurred just last Wednesday is set to be rematched in the regular season this weekend as Sydney remain undefeated in the A-League.

City’s increased aggression this season was put under the microscope by Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi after the cup final triumph.

And after tempers flared in the opening minutes of last week’s spectacle, Brillante argued there was a combination of antagonism and respect towards City in a top-of-the-table clash.

“I think we’re just as aggressive, if not more aggressive, so we’re coming out firing and ready to go, it’s going to be a great game in we can’t wait,” Brillante said.

“Finals are always going to be like that, it was fiery especially in the first couple of minutes to the half hour mark.

“You're always going to expect that being a cup final, we just need to concentrate on the playing side of things and not get too worked up on that.

“You have to respect the opposition players every game.”

It was announced today Brillante would be a candidate for the NAB Young Footballer of the Year award, the second player from Sydney FC along with roommate Brandon O’Neill’s nomination last month.

The 23-year-old was taking a humble approach on the situation.

He was also eyeing some game time in the Socceroos.

“We’re both (O’Neill and Brillante) are pretty down to earth guys and we’re not like that, I think most of the reflection of  those awards needs to go to the other boys in the team,” he said.

“The performances they’ve been showing, without them this wouldn’t happen, so I’d like to congratulate them.

“First and foremost I’m just concentrating on week in and week out here, I think if we can keep the great team performances and results, in the past it’s shown Ange has looked at players within the A-League who are playing and doing well, so it’s possible it can happen and it’s something I’ll be working on.

“Everyone knows we can get the result against City, it’ll just help to push us a little bit further ahead and put us in a really good position leading into the middle of the season.”
