Jack Hingert says Brisbane Roar have learned their lessons from a heartbreaking 2019 finals campaign as they prepare to face Western United.
Hingert faced his own personal struggles in 2019 as an ACL injury sidelined him for most of the campaign, a season that saw Brisbane miss finals for the first time in eight years.
“I had the ACL injury which came at a rough part of the season for the team & the club,” Hingert told the club website.
“It was even more disappointing for me to have the personal issues with the knee and then not being able to keep fighting the rest of the season and just having to watch from the sidelines.
“It was a season to forget last season, but it’s also good to look back and it makes you hungrier to be successful."
The Roar now face a very different challenge in their first final against Western United on Sunday. A fresh-faced club that has gone through two new coaches face an entirely new expansion club in a very different finals atmosphere due to COVID-19.
Hingert says while some things change, others stay the same.
“Over the years I’ve been here, we are a successful club, we do have high standards and to have that season last year served as a reminder of what it could be like if things don’t go your way or if you don’t put in 100% every day," he continued.
“It was a bit of a wake up a call. For me personally, it made me really want to strive and gave me back that hunger to be back where we belong – in finals and being successful.”
