BRISBANE ROAR

Jamie Young - 6

There wasn't much for Jamie Young to do while Connor Pain finished past him in the fourth minute and he watched in horror as Pain's long range effort cannoned off the post but luckily not into the net.

Jack Hingert - 5

Poor communication with Jacob Pepper allowed Tommy Oar to cause serious problems for the Brisbane defence.

Avraam Papadopoulos - 6

Papadopoulos couldn't threaten from set pieces for Brisbane and jockeyed Pain till he finished in the third minute.

Jacob Pepper - 6

Besides an unnecessary yellow card Pepper didn't have to deal with much from the Mariners as Brisbane were on top for almost the entire match.

Connor O'Toole - 5.5

Caught way out of position as the Mariners counter-attack took advantage of the space in the right channel that was left vacant by the young left-back.

Thomas Kristensen - 5

Kristensen's passing was uncharacteristically off target as Brisbane seemed to play more direct against the Mariners.

Stefan Mauk - 5.5

Mauk's hesitation cost Brisbane the chance to draw level as two opportunities passed him by to slam home the equaliser in the first half. A shot turned assist for Taggart for Brisbane's equaliser.

Alex Lopez - 6

Some desperate defensive work kept Brisbane from falling further behind in the first half. A competent debut from the Spanish midfielder.

Eric Bautheac - 6.5

The Frenchman, with his intricate passing and touches created some half chances for Brisbane down the right flank under pressure. Some delightful passes broke open the Mariners defence time after time but the ball couldn't hit the net.

Adam Taggart - 5

Taggart's first effort was almost a superb goal, heading O'Toole's cross on the edge of the box whilst on the run flashed wide. Another clear cut chance was ballooned over just before half-time. After having a goal chalked off by VAR Taggart got his equaliser moments later.

Tobias Mikkelsen - 6

Worked well with his partner O'Toole to open up space in the channels for Brisbane and was outstanding threading passes into dangerous areas in the box. A brilliant touch set up Taggart but his honking finish went over.

Substitutes

Henrique - 6

Almost got the Roar back in front within minutes of coming on with a shimmy and shot but Ben Kennedy was alive to it.

Matt McKay - N/A

Brought on with six minutes to go

CENTRAL COAST MARINERS

Ben Kennedy - 6.5

A comfortable save denied Adam Taggart's header early in the second half before flying through the air to stop Hingert's long range volley.

Kye Rowles - 7.5

Rowles had a difficult time dealing with the combo of O'Toole and Mikkelsen without the help of Connor Pain. He gradually improved as the match wore on and was superb towards the end of the game.

Kalifa Cisse - 6.5

Cisse's positioning was poor in the first half as Taggart and Mauk made decisive runs in behind the Malian defender leading to countless chances for Brisbane. His desperation and last ditch defending amidst VAR controversy was commendable.

Antony Golec - 7

A well timed sliding tackle dispossessed Adam Taggart which kick started the move that led to Connor Pain's opener in the 3rd minute. Without Golec the Mariners could have conceded three by half-time.

Jack Clisby - 6

Clisby's set piece left a lot ot be desired while his defensive stability was seriously tested against Eric Beatheac. A game saving challenge as Clisby came across Henrique before the Brazilian pulled the trigger.

Michael McGlinchey - 5

Mcglinchey didn't get the chance to be creative with less than 40% possession for the Mariners. The Kiwi international had a rather quiet game for the Mariners.

Tom Hiariej - 6

A superb outside of the foot pass to Connor Pain set the winger free as he finished calmly for 1-0. A muscular performance from the Dutchman that stymied Brisbane's forward momentum at times.

Tommy Oar - 5

Oar made room for crosses but his accuracy was off this evening. The Socceroo got himself into the right positions but the Mariners were under duress for the majority of the match.

Connor Pain - 7

A brilliant and confident finish from Pain which finished a slick counter-attacking move for the Mariners had the visitors up by a goal inside four minutes. Hungry for goals was Pain as he hit the inside of the post but it didn't bounce in from 20 yards.

Matt Simon - 4

Jacob Pepper's strong challenge into Simon's lower back meant the striker had a rather tough time against Brisbane. Substituted for O'Neill with 23 minutes to go.

Ross McCormack - 5

Tried his best at holding up play along with Matt Simon but chances were hard to come by for the Scot.

Substitutes

Aiden O'Neill - 5.5

Impressive off the bench for the Mariners with some dangerous shots and link up play.

Jordan Murray - 5

An A-League debut for former APIA Leichhardt striker.

Jacob Melling - N/A

Brought on with four minutes to go.
