These two have met in important games in recent seasons, but this one was important for different reasons. With both clubs coming off wins, three points would see either side into the top six, albeit temporarily.
WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS
Vedran Janjetovic – 8.5 - Great save from a Gameiro shot in the first half when his side was up 1-0. Had a very good night and dealt with anything Brisbane threw at him.
Raul Llorente – 7 - Found himself on the right and did well. Clearly favoured his left boot, but disguised it, and presented a challenge for Connor O’Toole.
Robbie Cornthwaite – 7 - Had two threats to deal with in Gameiro and Maccarone, but the formation meant he had time to weigh his options.
Michael Thwaite – 7 - Stood tall when called upon and along with Cornthwaite forced most of Brisbane’s chances wide and far.
Jack Clisby – 6 - Had a challenging first half with Skapetis and Hingert running him ragged, but an overall tidy performance in a rare start this season.
Chris Herd – 7.5 - Still building fitness after a few weeks out, but he bossed the midfield for the visitors with some strong challenges. Conceded plenty of fouls along the way, but set the tone and was subbed off once Josep Gombau felt their authority wasn’t going to be questioned.
