While Sydney are undefeated in the A-League after 16 games, it’s a different story when it comes to their record against Melbourne Victory away, which remain unbeaten in last six home games against the Sky Blues.

In the previous Big Blue Sydney snapped a nine-game winless streak, and heading into today’s blockbuster, Brosque believes that victory could put them closer to winning the Premier’s Plate.

“It would be huge,” he said. “We definitely want to take out the minor premiership. It’s important when it comes to the Grand Final to have that home ground advantage. So, winning the minor premiership from day one was our target and if we get a good result down in Melbourne it puts us 11 points clear and gives us a lot of breathing space heading into the final 10 games.

“It will be a big game but on a good note we have already played them already this year and we got a good win and we are confident we can go and do it again in Melbourne as well

After six wins in succession, Victory were seemingly closing the gap at the top, but after two losses on the bounce, Brosque said Sydney can take advantage of their opponent’s recent form.

“If they won both those games they would’ve been within two points of us and there would’ve been everything to play for in this game,” he said. “Which is great for us and means their momentum has stopped. They need to try and get back on track and we need to keep on doing what we are doing.

“Obviously, their heads will be a bit down and confidence might not be as high as what it was after their six-game winning streak. We are getting them at a time when they are vulnerable and conceding a few goals and we are confident that we can go down there and get the win.”

And Brosque isn’t satisfied in just getting the three points in tonight’s Big Blue.

He revealed the Sly Blues' driving force for the remainder of the A-League was to be merciless.

“The whole season we’ve been doing well and wanting to go through unbeaten and it’s for these moments,” he said. “It’s the moments when other teams inevitably will slip up and we need to be ruthless and go for it and keep stretching that lead.

“Our motivation now is to not be happy about eight points to make it 11 and next week make it more and next time we play them make it even more.

“This game has been coming for a while and it has already been in the back of people’s minds and it’s been in the media “the Big Blue on Australia day”. Now that it’s here, the fact that Melbourne has slipped up in the last couple of games is exactly the moment that we are looking for.”
