Brosque missed Sunday's 2-1 defeat against Perth Glory with Sydney fearing the long plane trip could aggravate a hamstring niggle.

But the player is confident he will be fit and raring to go for the clash against Melbourne Victory on Saturday.

Brosque told au.fourfourtwo.com today: "It was pretty much a precautionary thing that I didn't travel to Perth but hopefully I'll be good to go this weekend.

"Obviously it was disappointing to lose at the weekend, especially as we could have gone top with a win.

"That's twice we've played against the team who was bottom of the table at the time (Sydney also having lost 2-1 in Wellington) and come away with nothing.

"But I think it's a compliment to the league in terms of how close the teams are."

But if Sydney don't find cellar dwellers to their taste, Brosque says a trip to Melbourne could be the perfect way of banishing such disappointment.

He said: "It's going to be the biggest game of the year so far and we'll be looking to go there and get the result.

"I don't think we've ever won there and I've only managed to score once against them.

"They're at home and they'll be favourites but we want to go there and change that (Sydney's record on Victorian soil).

"I know all the boys will be looking forward to it.

"They've a very strong defensive unit but I think we have the boys in the side to break them down."

Brosque is also hoping he will have something else to smile about by the time of the Victory clash.

He remains locked in talks with Sydney FC over a new contract at the SFS and despite other interest, is hoping a deal can be wrapped up ASAP.

He said: "I'm pretty close to finalising things. There's a couple of minor details to be sorted out but I am looking to stay here."
