ALEX Brosque admits he was disappointed to be overlooked by Pim Verbeek this week and the striker has vowed to join the list of A-League 'Roos.
The Sydney FC striker is pleased with his own start to the domestic season but the only Sydney names on the 35-strong initial list for the Qatar clash were Stuart Musialik and Shannon Cole.
Broque is hoping a good performance and three points against old club Queensland Roar will be the perfect way to try and catch the eye of the Socceroos coach.
Speaking after training today at the Sydney Football Stadium, Brosque said: “I was a little bit disappointed but there’s been camps in the past year where there’s been a lot of A-League players involved and I haven’t been there. So I definitely wasn’t expecting a call up.
“I guess it’s down to me to make sure I’m performing and make sure I catch his eye otherwise I probably shouldn’t expect a call.
“As a forward it’s getting a lot of scoring positions, scoring goals and helping create goals. I have just got to make sure I keep doing that and try and put some pressure on I guess.
“Personally I’m pretty happy (with my start to the season). It’s good to get a couple of goals early in the season, it really takes a lot of pressure off.”
As for facing his old club, Brosque says Roar on the road are not a proposition to be taken lightly.
He said: “They’re doing well. They knocked off Melbourne last week. Generally they’re a lot better away from home than they are at home. We have to be back on our game and bounce back from last week and looking to really put them under pressure early on.”
While Brosque missed out on a Socceroos call up, Stuart Musialik did make it and he is delighted.
He said: “Since coming to Sydney I’ve really knuckled down and been training hard and focusing on football. To have this call up it’s good to know that I’m being recognised for the hard work I’ve been putting in.
I’m trying not to think about that (Pim Verbeek). If i just go out and concentrate on my game and my job with Sydney then the other stuff will take care of itself. That’s what I’m focusing on.”
Musialik could have been lining up for Roar tomorrow had things worked out differently in the summer but despite receiving a good offer from Frank Farina, insists his first choice was always going to be Sydney after quitting Newcastle Jets.
He said: “Sydney was always my number one team if I was going to leave Newcastle. They put in a good offer but at the end of the day I wanted to come to Sydney.
“Queensland are always dangerous. They’ve got the little whippets that run around in midfield and always create havoc. They’ve got their experienced players as well so we know it’s going to be a tough game.”
