EXCLUSIVE: Alex Brosque is urging Juninho to continue his Sydney FC adventure and bring their fantastic partnership to a new and deadlier level.
Club chairman Andrew Kemeny has labelled the chances of agreeing a fresh deal with the Brazilian as ’50-50’ with John Aloisi having been unveiled as the marquee player for the fourth A-League season.
While negotiations continue the man who arguably benefited the most from the World Cup star’s injury-plagued spell in the harbour city is anxious to see him back for another stint.
Brosque pounced on numerous threaded passes from Juninho last season and feels a fully fit and injury-free Brazilian would reap an even greater partnership and make life pretty miserable for opposing defences.
Sydney have already landed three big names in Aloisi, Mark Bridge and Simon Colosimo but Brosque hopes there is room in the budget for at least one more.
He told au.fourfourtwo.com: “Look, my message to him (Juninho) is thank you for everything last year but I’d love to see you back.
“He’s the main reason I scored as many goals as I did last season. He’s a true legend in the game. He gave us a lot last year but I still think there’s more to give.
"We worked well together and it would be fantastic to work together again. Any team would want a 100 per cent Juninho in their side.
“He just has an amazing understanding of where and when strikers are going to make a run. How many times did he pick me out last season? So often it led to us getting a goal or a scoring opportunity. It was great.
“So I just hope he can come to some agreement with the club for next year.”
Juninho is currently believed to have returned home to Brazil and in contact with clubs there while he considers the contract offer from Sydney, but has admitted he has suffered from homesickness while in Australia.
But while Brosque waits to see whether Juninho’s services are indeed secured for another year, the 24-year-old is still basking in the satisfaction of being voted the Sydney FC players’ player of the year.
He said: “For me there’s no greater honour than being recognised by the guys we have here. We’re a really close group and they are my friends as well as colleagues.”
As for off season plans before he reports back for training on April 28, Brosque said: “I ended the season with a bit of a back niggle so I’m just looking to rest up and get myself right for next year. Then it’s back into it and we go again.”
