After beginning last term with a 19 game unbeaten start, Sydney only lost one game during the regular home and away A-League season.

On the way to winning the premiership, which they did by a record 17 points, they also had the most wins, highest goal difference, least goals conceded, most clean sheets and most points in a season.

The Grand Final win against Melbourne Victory secured the Sky Blues their first Championship since 2010 and ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, Brosque is hooked on last season’s feeling.

“You always try and prepare to win the championship, that’s the end goal of every team,” he said speaking exclusively to FourFourTwo.

“The feeling that we had in doing what we did last season was so good, that when you actually do it, and for me personally it had been a long time, it’s just something that you don’t want to give up.

“What we did last year was pretty special and very unique. It’s about doing everything that we did to help us through last year and not slipping up in any way.”

“That’s what will drive us, rather than trying to better what we did last year.”

While Sydney broke several team records, on an individual level Brosque’s 11 goals was the highest return in his career and he credits the Sky Blues strength and conditioning staff for his success.

“For me personally it’s probably up there as one of my best seasons,” he said “It was probably the fittest I had ever been and the best I’ve ever felt on a week by week basis.

“That’s thanks to Andrew Clarke and our physio because the year before I’d had a few bad hamstring injuries.”

With Brosque in fine scoring form last season many pundits were putting his name forward for Soccerooos selection.

And while that isn’t a goal this season, putting as many balls in the back of the net is.

“This season I want to score as many goals as I can, create as many as I can and be there in that position to help work for the team. That won’t change,” he said.

“As long as I keep doing that and what is required of me off the park to make sure I’m fit and healthy, then on the park my goals will always be the same,”

“Just like the whole squad set a standard last year, for myself it’s about doing the right stuff off the field, like preparation and doing what I have to do to make sure my body is right. At my age it’s about maintaining that.”
