Brosque is said to have been offered a lucrative deal in the J.League with Shimizu S-Pulse which he is said to be keen to take.

The J.League side is said to have made increasing transfer offers to Sydney to buy the club's leading goalscorer but has so far been rebuffed.

Speculation that Brosque was about to activate a personal buyout clause in his contract to allow him to make the move was quashed today when the club vowed to keep their star regardless.

But a statement from the club did not include any quotes from the player himself - sparking speculation that he is being kept against his will and is unhappy with the arrangement.

However Sydney's vice-chairman Scott Barlow insisted Brosque would not be going to Japan or any other club, overseas or domestic.

“Alex is a key member of our A-League team and forms an integral part of the club’s future and that is why we signed Alex to a new three-year contract in 2010,” Barlow said.

“We are focused on building a Championship winning squad for the 2011/12 season and Alex is central to that.

“Both Alex and Sydney FC made a commitment to each other in the middle of last year when a new three year deal was agreed, keeping Alex at our Club until the completion of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season.

“Sydney FC has every intention of honouring its commitment to Alex."

He added: “It is the view of Sydney FC that as the A-League continues to grow, clubs will need to take a stance on player transfers and begin to put the interests of their club and the A-League first.

“Players should not be encouraged to leave the domestic league at the earliest opportunity. This will impact on the quality and long-term viability of the A-League.

“We are weeks away from commencing our 2011 AFC Champions League campaign and having Alex in Sky Blue is central to our plans to have a successful tournament.”
