“That win has definitely done it for us but we need to carry it on this week. It's really important we get a good win away from home,” Brosque said this morning at the side's recovery session at Bondi Beach.

Sydney FC have another NSW derby on Saturday night away to the high flying Newcastle Jets.

“We needed to win to keep in the mix. It's a massive confidence boost. We don't want to be languishing down the bottom. We owed the supporters a performance like that,” he added.

And the former Westerlo striker is looking to fellow hitman Michael Bridges to create more chances for him to score off after his two goal heroics on Sunday pushed him to the top of the A-League goalscorers chart.

“He [Bridges] gives us something different. He holds the ball up well and looks to go forward as well and it's good to run off someone like that.

“Playing that lone role is a tough position but he does it well. He attracts two defenders all the time and I guess that does free up space for players on both sides of him, allowing more one on one situations.”

It's been a tumultuous week for Sydney with the dumping of coach Branko Culina and the arrival of John Kosmina to the coaching hotseat.

Brosque added that he felt any coaching change usually leads to an upturn in fortunes, but admitted: “The club needed a change to spice things up a bit, maybe get a bit of confidence going.”
