As they prepare for the first leg of their semi-final against Melbourne Victory tomorrow night, Brosque has hailed all those who have helped transform the club's fortunes - both on and off the pitch.

Sydney ended last season out of finals contention but in the weeks and months that followed the wind of change blew through the corridors of the club with new owners and a new coach.

Before a ball had been kicked in anger this season, the club made it clear it wanted to banish the bling image and engage with the community.

"We played 12 or 13 pre-season games, a lot of them in the pouring rain," Brosque told au.fourfourtwo.com. "We went all over Sydney to try and really get the word out of what we're trying to do this year.

"We tried to play a different style of football, we were under new management,  there was a new vision by the club and we had to get the word out to a lot of people."

While new boss Vitezslav Lavicka was able to add three new faces to his squad, this year's Premiership-winning squad is much the same as the one that failed last season.

"This year I think we possibly just needed something new, a fresh face," said Brosque. "Vitezlav, Michael Zach and even Tony Popovic have given us exactly that.

"They've brought fresh, new ideas to a club that probably was getting a little bit stale in terms of the way we were playing and the way things were going for the club in general."

Brosque revealed that everything has been geared towards success since the new regime at the club was established.

"We sat down (in pre-season) and set our targets and goals as a club, team and as individuals. So far so good," he added.

"We finished exactly where we wanted to, which was top and to get that direct passage into Asia."
