Brown made his Pompey debut in the defeat to Manchester City at the weekend but the 32-year-old was encouraged by the performance at Fratton Park.

It leaves Paul Hart's men bottom of the Barclays Premier League and looking for their first point of the season.

"I think we deserved a point, definitely," Brown said.

"We were playing a fantastic team but credit to us, we kept fighting, we kept playing our football and in the end had a couple of chances - it's just a shame we couldn't finish them.

"It gives us something to build on and I think with just a bit more resilience and confidence we'll be all right.

"The longer it goes on when you are on no points it's inevitable the confidence starts to suffer but that performance will give us a boost of confidence.

"Manchester City are a top team, there are some top players and we can build on that. I think there are things to encourage us, definitely.

"We've got to take the positives from it.

"There are some good players in the dressing room, I just think you need a bit more confidence and for the players to pull together and we'll be fine."
