HULL manager Phil Brown insists his players will not have a problem keeping their feet on the ground after opening their first Barclays Premier League campaign with a win over Fulham.
Brown saw Brazilian Geovanni equalise Seol Ki-Hyeon's opener for the visitors with a magnificent strike halfway through the first half, before substitute Caleb Folan grabbed the winner late on.
After a summer of mounting anticipation in the city, an opening-day victory sent the Hull fans wild with celebration.
However, Brown is convinced he has the right characters in his squad to prevent the players from getting carried away.
Brown said: "I afforded myself a smile before the game when I stood back, looked at everything and thought, 'we're here'.
"But we've got quite a level-headed bunch of players here. People like Ian Ashbee won't be getting carried away, you can be sure of that.
"Now we've got here, we need to learn. If we don't learn from these experiences, there's no point us being here."
Match-winner Folan, who converted a cross from fellow substitute Craig Fagan nine minutes from time, agreed that his team-mates have the right mentality to approach the challenges ahead.
"We've got a great bunch of players here," he said. "It's always interesting when new players come in and you see how they fit in with the players that are already here.
"But it's like one big happy family here and everyone gets on well with each other.
"We did ourselves justice out there and showed a lot of character to come back."
Folan also believes Hull will reap the benefits of an early return to pre-season training.
"We've kept things as normal as possible during pre-season and everyone seemed very relaxed before the game, and then when the match started we went back to how we were last season," he added.
"I think we've been quite clever with pre-season this year, and I think it definitely showed there today."
Fulham manager Roy Hodgson refused to blame defender Paul Konchesky, whose mistake allowed Fagan to set up Folan for the winner.
"Paul Konchesky is one of the best defenders in the league, but there was always a chance of a defensive mistake as the match went on," said Hodgson.
"I don't remember them having chance after chance, but we didn't bring our midfielders into the game as much as we should have done in the second half."
Hodgson also down-played the significance of the result in the context of the whole campaign, having seen his side survive last season with four wins out of their last five games.
"This could be seen as a reality check in terms of the result, but the season ends in May," he added. "There are going to be 38 very, very tough games.
"There is a long way to go. All this proves is that there are no easy games in the Premier League.
"They (Hull) must be delighted with the performance, but we will go home and lick our wounds."
