“We are very close. The job's half done, obviously," said the Victory midfielder. "We've got to go to North Korea and do all the right things and we need at least a point there.

“Yes, it's going to be difficult for us, but you got to remember, Iraq travelled all the way here. Now the have to go all the way to play Lebanon. And they've got to do the business as well.

“Away games are a lot harder. But I think the boys showed it against Iraq, they have a lot of character,” added the nuggety 19-year-old Melbourne Victory midfielder.

Olyroo Mark Bridge, 22, added that this Wednesday night game “was the most crucial”.

“If we lose, we don't qualify. We'll be smart with how we travel and recover and hopefully we'll get the result we need. It's the first time qualification has been so tough [through Asia], so to qualify will be an achievement.”

There are injury concerns within the Olyroo camp with striker David Williams – who came on as a late sub against Iraq – ruled out with a hamstring injury. Neil Kilkenny, Matt Spiranovic, Bruce Djite and Stuart Musialik were also missing from the squad that played Iraq on Saturday night.

“We've shown the depth that we have. I mean look at some of the players on the bench. It shows the depth and quality of this generation,” added Broxham.

Australia plays North Korea from Pyongyang on Wednesday night.
