Australia’s domestic competition will be the first in the world to implement the VAR which begins this Friday when Melbourne City lock horns with Adelaide United at home.

Broxham has been in the A-League for over a decade with Victory and witnessed some refereeing errors during his time.

“We are pretty critical on referees but sometimes things happen very quickly and they’re only human,” Broxham said.

“It can only help and I think it will still have some teething problems to begin with, they’re still practicing as well. I’m sure it all won’t be smooth sailing but everyone needs an open mind.

“It can only be a good thing really, the way they’ve approached it, less impact on the game so the game still flows. We’re not stopping a game for five minutes looking at things.”

And with his coach Kevin Muscat backing the trial for video referees in the league, Broxham said it was needed for officials to make the right decision.

“It’s definitely a positive thing,” he said.

“A lot will go on in the background that we won’t know about, we see a goal disallowed for whatever situation and everyone says in the media we’re waiting for this so I’m not going to stand here and say ‘well I don’t know now’.”

Victory take on Western Sydney Wanderers away at ANZ Stadium with the Big V taking out the first two reverse fixtures 3-0 this season.

Fifth-placed Wanderers need to win to keep themselves secure for the finals with Victory are two games clear in second following a sluggish 3-0 smacking to Wellington Phoenix at home.

Broxham admitted it was a disjointed week but was not using complacency as an excuse, drawing on their 2007 grand final success.

“Momentum is a factor, but 10 years ago we lost the last two games and won the Grand Final 6-0,” Broxham said.

“It’s a factor, but it’s not everything. We have got two games to gain the momentum. In a way Western Sydney is a very good challenge, we have had good results against them in the past, but they have good players and are in good form.

“It’s not really comparing it in any way, but we will go into these last two games and nothing has changed. Training has been how it’s always been and it will be the same as it has this last two weeks and going into the finals as well.”
