Kamau burst on to the A-League scene as a teenager in 2014 and became a prominent figure during Adelaide United’s  2015-16 double winning campaign, with a goal in the 3-1 Grand Final victory over the Wanderers.

Following his breakout season, the Kenyan-born winger then joined Melbourne City for the follwing two seasons.

Kamau's first year at City saw the winger continue his fine form and during the 2016-17 A-League campaign he played 25 matches and produced a career high eight assists.

However towards the end of last season, the Olyroo found himself in and out of Warren Joyce’s side and Kamau told FTBL that joining the Wanderers was about rejuvenating his career.

“I enjoyed my time at Melbourne City but I thought that I needed a change to get more consistent football," he said.

“As a footballer you always want to be playing, you always want to be on the pitch trying to improve and enjoy your football.

“So that was a big factor in my decision to come to Western Sydney.”

“I was involved with the Olyroos and that gave me a taste for playing for Australia and hopefully I can have a good season domestically and put my name in the mix for the Socceroos as well.”

Kamau also believes that having former Liverpool and Bayern Munich star Makus Babbel as his mentor will take his game to another level.

“He’s played at the highest level something everyone in our squad  and every footballer wants to do as well,” he said.

“Whenever he gives you advice you take it on because he’s speaking from experience.

"It’s one thing to coach, but to also have played at such a high level you understand that he definitely knows what he's talking about.

“Having him at the Wanderers is fantastic. So far I have enjoyed my time there working under him and learning a lot. It’s been very good for me."

After four rounds of the  2018/19 A-League campaign the Wanderers are in fifth place on the ladder despite having only one win next to their name.

Even so, Kamau is confident that this season Western Sydney will be challenging for the A-League title.

“We definitely want to make the finals and definitely want to be in the competition for winning silverware,” he said.

“From the FFA Cup you could see that is something we wanted to do, although we lost to Sydney FC in the semi-final I still feel we put on a very strong display.

“That is something that we want to continue throughout the season and hopefully results come our way and we can make a run into the finals and win something this year.”
