Tim Cahill and Bruno Fornaroli believe consistency is key for City when they lock horns with Glory for their first home game of new campaign next Friday.
City have won their past three competitive games in a row with a 4-1 drubbing over Melbourne Victory on Saturday, 1-0 away win to Wellington Phoenix and previously a 4-1 smashing over Western Sydney Wanderers.
Cahill opened the scoring with a remarkable half volley from 40 metres out to start the dominance and now conceded there was genuine belief at City headquarters.
He also believed it was up to City to prove "fluke" claims wrong as they aim to lift the trophy in April.
“It’s evident (the hunger), the good thing now is people are now going to concentrate on writing on our football and writing about the way we started against Wanderers going back to that game because maybe that was a fluke,” Cahill said.
“Then we go to Wellington and we just happened to see that out and we come to Victory and maybe that’s another fluke, I think if people concentrate on watching our football, it clearly shows we have good infrastructure, a good attitude, the professionalism is fantastic and the work rate is second to none.
“This league, the question marks are, are we going to work hard enough? Are we just going to try, or are we just going to show up and play football and hopefully get by? If we don’t work and respect the league we can’t get these results and I think Melbourne Victory felt that last night.”
Fornaroli also managed to find himself on the scoresheet shortly after Cahill’s goal and looked dangerous alongside Nico Colazo and Fernando Brandan.
Both Argentine’s Colazo and Brandan had a strong influence on the game with the South American flavour adding significant punch.
“It’s great (Colazo and Brandan), you saw yesterday, they don’t feel the pressure and just play normally and they fight,” Fornaroli said. “So when you see this guy like this, I’m happy for them, it’s not easy when you change countries, different language, everything and I think yesterday all players played very well.
“It’s very important to start like this, but I think yesterday we had more than one captain inside the pitch, everyone ran, everyone fought and everyone put their heart on the pitch and this is very important.
“If you want to continue like this we need to work hard and yesterday when you see my friend (Cahill) like this and the fight, you have to go back.
“I’m happy for this and alright, we won a massive game - a derby, but it starts now so two games and six points, it’s important for the club and us, but this continues in a big game against Perth now, so we need to continue like this.”
Cahill was sensational said with his help, silverware was a realistic expectation.
The Socceroo legend said momentum was important as they sit second behind Sydney FC on goal difference.
“We’re not going to say we’re going to win the title, we’re not, firstly we need to change is our own mentality and play for our fans,” Cahill said.
“If we can do that then we’re starting the basis of earning the right to be in this league and to get the respect we deserve.
“You saw last night the performance of Dean Bouzanis, Bruce Kamau and Neil Kilkenny who is a Socceroo.
“Future players, regardless of whether we’re talking about Colazo, Bruno and Brandan, I’m talking about Australian based talent playing exceptionally well and there’s so much here to offer and now it’s like ‘okay consistency, two games four games, six games’ so if we take a game at a time, recover well, bring the same intensity to Perth, recover well and see what happens next game.”
