Baan quits tomorrow after a 44 year career in football, the last two of which he has spent in Australia setting up systems to improve the technical proficiency and skill levels of Australia's grassroots players and elite footballers.

"Rob has had a critical role in improving our football development programs after a lack of investment in this area over many years," said Buckley.

"Developing effective programs and systems for grassroots players, elite players and coaches is essential to achieving our long term aim of consistent international success.

"Rob has been instrumental in setting us on the right path, particularly through the introduction of small sided football, an elite coach development program and a national coaching curriculum."

Buckley added: "We have been very fortunate to have someone of his unquestionable experience and expertise at this early stage of improving our football development.

"All of us wish him well for a healthy and happy retirement."

Baan previously held senior technical positions with Feyenoord, the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) and the UAE Football Association. He has guided the careers of some of the biggest names in world football including Marco Van Basten, Johan Neeskens, Ronald de Boer and Ronaldo.

Baan thanked all members of the football community within Australia, including the media, for their friendship and support.

He leaves Australia tomorrow to join his wife, children and grandchildren in the Netherlands.

FFA announced Han Berger as Baan's successor earlier this month. Berger will take up his new role in January.
