Bleiberg was replaced by a life-size cardboard cut-out of himself at the Brisbane press conference after refusing to promote the match against Brisbane Roar any more than he was contractually required.

Roar coach Frank Farina branded it "disgraceful" and said he hoped the FFA would pursue Bleiberg for turning the event into a farce.

Now FFA Chief Executive Buckley has spoken out and admitted he's mystified by Bleiberg's actions.

"Gold Coast United have put in so much effort to get to this point and are a very welcome addition to the Hyundai A-League," said Buckley.

"We find Miron Bleiberg's attitude disappointing, petty and mystifying. All coaches have a responsibility not only to promote their own team and club but also the competition in which they are participating.

"Having said that, we have confidence that football fans of the Gold Coast and Brisbane will ignore him and attend a game which is history in the making - the first Queensland derby in the Hyundai A-League."

He added: "Fortunately also for Gold Coast United, they have a marvellous assistant coach. Paul Okon is a former Socceroo captain, an astute football brain and has a long history in contributing positively to football in Australia. "
