The USA's all-time leading scorer, Donovan had a hand in both goals as Edson Buddle finished off moves in the seventh and 87th minutes to add to his account for the 2010 campaign having scored the only goal in last Saturday's opening win over the New England Revolution.

Buddle headed home the opener after Donovan, back from a loan spell in England with Everton, had spread the ball out wide from the centre circle to right-back Sean Franklin, who sent in an ideal cross for the striker.

Chivas had their moments, the best two falling to Maicon Santos who first skied the ball over the bar in the 80th minute from inside the six-yard box after Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts had saved at the feet of Jesus Padilla.

Santos was in again five minutes later but drilled his shot into the side netting and the Galaxy sealed their victory less than two minutes later when Donovan broke free of his markers down the left and squared the ball for Buddle to sidefoot home.

In Houston, the Dynamo sent MLS champions Real Salt Lake to their first defeat of the season with a 2-1 victory at Reliant Stadium.

Real Salt Lake had looked well in control at half-time after Javier Morales fired home for his third goal in two games.

But the second half proved to be a personal nightmare for Real defender Jamison Olave, who conceded two penalties in three minutes to allow Brad Davis to score twice from the spot and hand the home team the win.
