Bianconeri fans were already resigned to being without the Italy keeper for a month after he was forced to withdraw from the Azzurri squad with an abductor strain in his right thigh.

However, Juve confirmed on Friday that Buffon will be sidelined for almost double that period.

"In regards to Buffon's muscular problem, ultrasound tests confirmed the diagnosis of a second grade tear and the prognosis of four weeks clinical treatment established by the national team doctors," read a statement on the Juventus website, www.juventus.it.

"In this period, as soon as possible, the player will begin physiotherapy work and specific training and, after total recovery, can begin again gradually to train with the squad.

"His competitive return can only take place several weeks later."
