Rukavytsya joined Hertha during the off-season from Dutch champions FC Twente and has helped the capital club climb to the top of Germany's 2.Bundesliga and the cusp of promotion with five games to play.

The Ukraine-born Australia international has been a revelation at Hertha playing as a wide attacker, providing 10 assists and four goals.

“I'm very pleased with how the season has gone for me so far,” Rukavytsya, 23, told the Hertha website.

“But above all, we've played like a team. We have worked very well and hard and hopefully we'll be rewarded with promotion.”

The top two in Germany's 2.Bundesliga are automatically promoted and Hertha are currently seven points clear of third-placed Bochum.

Hertha defeated Bochum last Monday 2-0 and Rukavytsya said there's no stopping the capital club in their bid for promotion.

“If we keep playing like this no one will stop us,” he said.

The former Perth Glory man added he was excited by the prospect of playing in the Bundesliga - regarded as one of Europe's strongest leagues - next season

“I am looking forward to the league, no question,” he said.

“It's a fantastic league with incredibly good teams. Playing against Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will certainly be great. But all the other teams have plenty of quality.”

Rukavytsya also said 2.Bundesliga, where fellow young Aussies Mathew Leckie and Robbie Kruse are likely to play next season, is a strong division.

“It's a very good league with many good teams and good players. That really surprised me,” he said. “It's been a very tough year, no game has been easy.”

Rukavytsya has impressed many onlookers with his quick adjustment to life in Germany's second division and he insisted the club has helped him find his feet.

“In professional football you have to integrate quickly,” he said. “I think that I've managed well.

“The team, the coaches, the whole club have helped me to fit in and when you get so much help, then it's all the easier.”

The young forward added he's enjoyed life in Berlin and is happy at the club.

“The city is great, the people are incredibly nice,” Rukavytsya said.

“There are so many things to see and do. The club is great and the fans just breathtaking. I am very happy here.”

He added: “The fans are incredible. I've never experienced this kind of support. Against Paderborn there were over 70,000 fans there. It's indescribable.

“They are always behind us, even at away games. That helps enormously.”

Rukavytsya was also part of the Australia squad which defeated Germany 2-1 recently in Moenchengladbach.

And while the Hertha forward didn't get on the field in the match, he was delighted with the win.

“We were angry about the big loss to Germany at the World Cup. So it was good to take some revenge,” he said.

“Although, of course, both teams were missing some key players and it was a friendly.”

Rukavytsya's Hertha can move a step closer to promotion when they host VfL Osnabruck on Saturday.
