The pace-setters came within 10 minutes of losing to Arminia Bielefeld and Nurnberg respectively, before snatching late equalisers.

Hosts Nurnberg went ahead against the league leaders two minutes before the break through Zvjezdan Misimovic, but were pegged back by Germany striker Lukas Podolski's 81st-minute strike.

In Hamburg, Bielefeld took advantage of David Jarolim's 66th-minute red card to go ahead through Markus Bollmann (72).

But Paolo Guerrero levelled eight minutes from time and the sides were evened up three minutes later when Hamburg substitute Jorg Bohme was dismissed - just seven minutes after coming on.

Bayern Munich remain seven points ahead of Hamburg and a further two ahead of Schalke who also failed to take advantage - they drew 0-0 at Karlsruhe.

And defeats for Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen meant none of the top five could claim a victory.

Leverkusen slipped to a 2-0 home defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt, Werder Bremen lost 2-1 at home to Duisburg and Borussia Dortmund came from 2-0 and 3-2 down to claim a 3-3 draw at Bochum.
