Arjen Robben got the scoring under way just before the half-time whistle but the majority of the action came in the second period.

Gomez made it two seconds after the restart before Jan Moravek gave the visitors some hope by making it 2-1.

Bayern picked up in the final 10 minutes, though, Gomez notching twice in four minutes and Thomas Muller adding the fifth in stoppage time.

Runaway leaders Borussia Dortmund were held 1-1 by Stuttgart.

Mario Gotze put the pace-setters ahead in the 42nd minute - a lead they held until six minutes from time when Pavel Pogrebnyak equalised.

Second-placed Hannover also lost points, beaten 1-0 at home by Schalke.

Schalke, up to 10th after the final whistle, held off a second-half onslaught after veteran striker Raul gave them the advantage with 33 minutes on the clock.

Simon Kjaer scored the only goal of the game to earn Wolfsburg their first Bundesliga win since October and dent Mainz's European hopes.

The Denmark defender capitalised on a mistake from goalkeeper Heinz Muller to head home the decisive goal in the 82nd minute.

Freiburg also suffered a blow in their pursuit of European football, Julian Schieber's second-half equaliser earning Nurnberg a 1-1 draw.

Johannes Flum had given Robin Dutt's side a 32nd-minute lead but Schieber pounced 11 minutes after the interval to get the Bavarians back on level terms.
