Jakub Blaszczykowski's stoppage-time equaliser earned Borussia Dortmund a 1-1 draw at Hamburg and sent them eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
Blaszczykowski scored at the death to cancel out Ruud van Nistelrooy's 39th-minute penalty.
Hamburg were down to 10 men for the last 12 minutes following Anis Ben-Hatira's sending off and were unable to hold out.
Dortmund's closest challengers Bayer Leverkusen can reduce the gap at the top to five points when they host St Pauli tomorrow.
Bayern Munich slipped out of the Champions League places as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Nurnberg, Hannover moving a point ahead of them into third with a 2-0 win over Mainz.
Thomas Muller gave Bayern the lead after just five minutes but a bad mistake by the visiting goalkeeper Thomas Kraft handed Christian Eigler the equaliser after an hour.
And the defending champions' frustrating afternoon ended on a sour note when Arjen Robben was sent off after the final whistle for dissent.
Hannover had little trouble in seeing off 10-man Mainz to keep up their surprise push for Champions League qualification.
Didier Ya Konan gave Hannover the lead from the penalty spot a minute into first-half stoppage time after Mainz defender Nikolce Noveski had been sent off for a foul in the area and Sergio Pinto made it 2-0 after 59 minutes.
Felix Magath made a losing return to Schalke with Wolfsburg as his new side suffered a 1-0 defeat.
Less than four weeks after leaving the Royal Blues, Magath saw a goal from one of his signings, Jose Manuel Jurado, earn Schalke victory and leave the Wolves in the bottom three.
Julian Schuster scored one and set up another as 10-man Freiburg came back to beat Hoffenheim 3-2.
Schuster gave Freiburg the lead straight from a corner after 24 minutes but the hosts had Pavel Krmas dismissed 10 minutes later. Vedad Ibisevic converted the resulting penalty and Ryan Babel made it 2-1 for Hoffenheim.
But Papiss Demba Cisse equalised with a penalty after an hour and Heiko Butscher scored the winner 12 minutes from time.
Kaiserslautern took a big step towards survival as they came from behind to win 4-2 at Stuttgart, Srdjan Lakic scoring twice.
Lakic gave the visitors the lead in the 17th minute, but Zdravko Kuzmanovic equalised from the penalty spot in the 26th minute and Pavel Pogrebnyak made it 2-1 for Stuttgart.
Erwin Hoffer levelled in the 68th minute before Lakic made it 3-2 and Stiven Rivic sealed victory for the visitors with four minutes left.
The win moved Kaiserslautern six points clear of the bottom three but kept Stuttgart just two points above the drop zone.
