FSV MAINZ went top of the Bundesliga today with a 2-0 victory at Werder Bremen.
Marcel Risse and Andre Schurrle scored the goals during an eight-minute period in the second half.
Risse smashed home from a tight angle after 53 minutes and then turned provider with a pass to Schurrle to tap home.
Former England manager Steve McClaren secured his first league win for his new club Wolfsburg.
McClaren admitted that the pressure was mounting after failing to pick up a point in his first three league games since his move from Dutch side FC Twente.
Some of that pressure will have been eased thanks to the Wolves' 2-0 victory over Hannover at the Volkswagen Arena.
Diego opened the scoring 10 minutes into the second half with a stunning overhead kick. Edin Dzeko added a deserved second after 67 minutes, taking advantage of a slip in the area by Florian Fromlowitz to dribble the ball round the goalkeeper and into the net.
The performance of the day was Stuttgart's magnificent destruction of Borussia Monchengladbach, with the home side smashing seven goals past the visitors including a hat-trick for Pavel Pogrebnyak.
Stuttgart were languishing at the bottom of the league before today's result without a single point to their name.
Pogrebnyak set the Swabians on their way after just two minutes and defender Georg Niedermeier doubled their advantage after 21 minutes at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
The hosts ran riot after the interval with Pogrebnyak bagging two more before Zdravko Kuzmanovic, Matthieu Delpierre and Ciprian Marica also all got in on the act.
Elsewhere Bayern Munich, despite being dominant, could not find a way past a stubborn Cologne defence as they fought out a 0-0 draw. The visitors remain the only Bundesliga club to be undefeated at the Allianz Arena.
Kaiserslautern and Hoffenheim also shared the points in their game, which finished 2-2.
The visitors took the lead thanks to Luiz Gustavo, but a brace in the second half from Erwin Hoffer put the home side in control. However Gylfi Sigurdsson hit a 77th-minute equaliser.
