Burns, 22, started and played 70 minutes for the Greek side as AEK move into second spot in Group G three points clear of third-placed Anderlecht with one game to play.

In first-half stoppage-time, Burns produced some fine footwork before setting up Ignacio Scocco from close range but he spurned the chance.

But AEK would go ahead in the 50th minute via Scocco, after Burns won a penalty when he was hauled down inside the box by Mario Maloca.

Ten minutes later AEK doubled their advantage when Monolas Kostas headed home, before Ismael Blanco added a third on 84 minutes.

Hajduk, who are now eliminated, did get a late consolation through Jurica Buljat.

Elsewhere overnight, Chris Herd and Shane Lowry were not in the Aston Villa squad which were knocked out of the Carling Cup after a 2-1 loss at Birmingham City.
