The 23-year-old attacker, who has been linked with a move back to the A-League, scored AEK's second goal in the win, which came too late for the Greek side who were eliminated.

Kostas Manolas had put AEK ahead on 10 minutes, before Burns netted moments before the interval, when he chested home Roger Guerreiro's cross from close range.

The Australian, who has made five of his six appearances for AEK in the Europa League this season, was replaced on 63 minutes after Florian Kainz had pulled a goal back on 59 minutes.

However, Viktor Klonaridis wrapped up the points on 77 minutes with a fine solo goal.

Elsewhere, Mark Schwarzer was absent with a back injury, which threatens to rule him out for six weeks, as Fulham were sensationally bundled out of the Europa League after blowing a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with OB Odense.

A Fulham statement read: "The club can confirm that he has sustained a compression injury to his thoracic spine and that he will be unavailable for four to six weeks."

Schwarzer suffered the injury after landing awkwardly after coming for a cross in the weekend's Premier League game with Swansea City.

The 39-year-old keeper wrote on Twitter: "Thanks for your well wishes, I'm devastated to be out for 4-6 weeks. After speaking to the specialist, it was very clear I needed a rest."
