BRITROOS WRAP: Socceroo Tim Cahill was the hero after scoring the crucial goal as Everton overcame third tier Carlisle United 3-1 in the English FA Cup overnight.
The Australian midfielder, who had battled an ankle injury to be fit for the clash, scored with a low shot on 82 minutes to give the Toffees the lead late.
The match been evenly poised after Carlisle's Kevan Hurst equalised James Vaughan's goal before half-time.
Vaughan did have the ball in the back of the net again before the break, after Cahill's long-range shot effort was saved into his path, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Carlisle frustrated Everton well into the second-half, before Cahill grabbed the winner, his 50th for the Toffees.
Leighton Baines converted a late penalty which gave Everton a flattering victory.
Lucas Neill, along with Cahill, put in a full shift for Everton.
Elsewhere in the FA Cup, Socceroos stalwart Mark Schwarzer kept another clean sheet for Fulham as they got hrough with a relatively comfortable 1-0 win over Swindon Town.
Vince Grella (thigh) and Brett Emerton (groin) were missing as Blackburn crashed out of the tournament, losing 3-1 to Shane Lowry's Aston Villa.
Richard Garcia had a fine game on the right-wing for Hull City but the Tigers crashed 4-1 to Wigan after leading at half-time. Garcia, who played a full game, linked up well with his forwards.
Goalkeeper Adam Federici was part of the Reading side which held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at the Madejski Stadium. Federici, though, appeared to pull his hamstring midway through the second-half and had to be replaced.
Rhys Williams missed a second-half chance for Middlesbrough as they crashed out 1-0 to Manchester City. Williams put in a full shift in midfield, while Brad Jones was absent again.
Young Aussie Chris Herd played a full game for Lincoln City as they lost 4-0 at Premier League club Bolton. Herd, who is on loan at Lincoln from Aston Villa, rattled in his side's best chance of the game with a long-range first-half effort.
James Meredith played just over an hour as York City took the lead, before losing 3-1 at Premiership club Stoke City.
Dean Bouzanis's Accrington Stanley are still alive in the cup after their clash with Gillingham was postponed, while Nick Carle's Crystal Palace got through 2-1 at Sheffield United.
Elsewhere in the UK, Danny Invincibile was creative for Kilmarnock but it wasn't enough as they slipped to a 1-0 loss at St Mirren in Scotland's Premier League.
Staying in the SPL, James Wesolowski and Trent McClenahan couldn't get on the pitch again as Hamilton's clash with Motherwell was postponed.
Finally in England's League Two, Aaron Downes finally made his return after a long-term injury, playing a full game as Chesterfield lost 1-0 to Shane Cansdell-Sherriff's Shrewsbury.
