Cahill's willingness to play through the pain barrier has been applauded by his club boss but Everton coach David Moyes admits he's worried about the Socceroo star.

Cahill played 85 minutes of Everton's Premier League game against Middlesbrough at the weekend but the coach later revealed the Australia had required an injection to enable him to play.

He is now suffering pain in his heel and could need further operations to remedy the problem in the long-term.

The Everton midfielder is hopeful of taking his place on the park, despite his sore heel, revealing that it’s something he has been playing through for some weeks and may require surgery further down the track.

“I’m always happy to play 90 minutes for Australia or Everton,” Cahill revealed after last night's Socceroo training session.

“It’s such a crucial time in this qualifying campaign that every single player is needed for this big game and will stand us in good stead for the rest of the group (matches).

While acknowledged that his manager at Everton David Moyes was none to pleased with him being in Manama, Cahill never had any doubts about being here.

He added: “This a World Cup qualifier and this is one of the most important games of our group that everyone, as a collective group, puts as much into this campaign as we can, because of what it means to our country.”

His boss David Moyes told the Liverpool Echo: "He has a foot injury which is causing us problems. He took injections because he was desperate to play and that's what we like about him, he always wants to be in the team.

"But he has got a sore heel. I'm not sure that rest alone will be a cure.

"It's not directly related to his foot problems in the past, but it's maybe been a result of the way he has had to be rehabilitated and change things around a bit."

Moyes added: "He definitely has a problem. It's like you're standing on a marble all the time.

"We think it might be to do with the insoles he wears now after his metatarsal injuries. It changes the mechanism of his feet."

Cahill has endured a miserable time with injury at Goodison Park but after a summer's rest and a spell back in Australia, had fought his way back into the side - marking that first game back with a goal.

He is also one of the first names on Pim Verbeek's teamsheet for Socceroos duty.
