Australia are still in the midst of the physical conditioning stage of their preparation, having arrived in South Africa just over a week ago.

After kickingoff the on-field preparations with a win over Denmark on Tuesday, Cahill said things are progressing well.

"We're happy, we've trained really hard the last seven days and it's all about making sure that we have some nice fluent football and that we play well," said Cahill.

"It's always nice to get a good result, but I think everyone has come off feeling really well. For the team, it was nice the way we played football. It's nice with how hard we've worked.

"We are all very happy."

Cahill said that he sees plenty of similarities with how the Socceroos prepared ahead of the 2006 World Cup.

"I don't see any difference. It's a big competition and it means we've got to compete as hard as we can and make sure we are consistent," he said.

But the one difference he did concede will be the crowd and the atmosphere, which the Everton midfielder is loving.

He added: "It is such a nice place, South Africa.

"We have been very impressed with everything that we've had here, especially the fans and the people, who have been so welcoming. For us, it's nice to play in that atmosphere."
