Cahill said the infusion of the likes of Shane Lowry, Rhys Williams, Nikita Rukavytsya, Aaron Mooy and others was keeping the current crop of Roos on their toes.

Cahill said it's benefiting the national team's eight month lead-in to South Africa 2010 by adding an extra edge to training.

"I think it's the brightness and willingness to run without the ball and to train and to work hard," he said. "The appetite as kids that we had that we've still got now when we first joined adds that extra dimension in the fact that the training sessions have more quality.

"You think if you come into camp and take time and relax and these kids are at your heels. It makes you sharper and makes the whole team sharper and makes it a lot more positive for selection."

Lowry is likely to be on the bench for the Holland game. Rhys Williams however could continue his meteoric rise in the national team on the right side of defence or even in a central role.

Williams, 21, made a huge impression against Japan last June in his debut.  The Boro man has slotted well into Verbeek's defensive plans after declaring for the Socceroos mid-year.

Lowry, 20,  too has the potential to enjoy a similar rise, particularly given he's a natural left-footer who's learnt his trade at Premiership club Aston Villa.

The future of the national team's backline is looking a lot more promising with these two joining the likes of central defenders Patrick Kisnorbo, Mark Milligan and Adrian Madaschi in the mix for Brazil 2014 qualifiers.

"I'm a strong believer in using young talent in the right way," added Cahill. "And Pim's done the right thing in slowly infusing the side. It's been brilliant and they're getting noticed."

The Socceroo talisman added that the team could improve by training more and playing less.

He added: "The main thing is to find consistency. And to train.

"The most impressive thing for me was the Ireland game. The way we played, the way the young lads were infused into the team.

"I'm very pleased with the way it's looking now. For me, the more training... it's not so much the games."
