While he was back in Australia this month, the Everton star met with Defence force football players and fans before a training clinic at Sydney Olympic Park.
Colonel Tony Anetts, patron of Australian Army Football, presented the Socceroo with a certificate commemorating his appointment as Honorary Patron, as well as a slouch hat.
“I’m really honoured to have been asked to assist the ADF this way and promote Defence football”, said Cahill.
“Defence members give so much of themselves serving Australia; it’s great to be able to give a little something back by taking on this role”.
Colonel Anetts says the support of one of Australia’s greatest footballers will provide a genuine boost to football in the ADF.
“Tim has been very enthusiastic about this role," he said. "We are very fortunate that with such a hectic international sporting schedule, Tim made sure he took time out to meet with and encourage Defence footballers.
"His willingness to take on this role augers well for a continuing relationship that benefits both Tim and ADF football.
“Our hope is that with Tim’s support we can continue to build upon the great success enjoyed by teams from all three services in recent years.”
