SOCCEROOS superstar Tim Cahill says Everton needs to put an end to its history of slow starts as the beginning of the new English Premier League campaign approaches.
Everton's fixture against Tottenham this weekend has been postponed due to the riots around the United Kingdom and, while Cahill has no complaints about that decision, he wants the Toffees to get points on the board early.
In the past few seasons, Everton have made a habit of starting the season slowly before gradually claiming a top-half finish.
“Last season and the season before we got off to average starts. It is hard to put your finger on it because it happens,” Cahill told Everton Magazine.
“But the main thing is we picked it up and finished seventh last season. This year we want to get off to a good start and main thing is to do well the whole season.”
On Everton's hopes for the 2011-12 campaign, Cahill added: “This time last year everybody was saying it was the best squad we’ve ever had.
“If you put the two squads on paper between last season and this, I don’t think there’s any difference.
“When I look around on the pitch I feel very comfortable because there is a lot of exceptional players and young talent.”
Everton will begin their league campaign at home to QPR on Saturday August 20.
