Cahill is expected to play some part in his club’s pre-season friendly with Werder Bremen tonight and he cannot wait.

Speaking to his club’s official website, Cahill appeared to praise the combined efforts of the Socceroos and Everton medical teams as he eased his way back from a metatarsal injury.

He said: "Everyone was very sensible, the Everton staff flew over to see me and it was well structured.

"The biggest thing for me was to come back fit for Everton and hopefully that's where we are at now.”

And now the player is looking to get some more match time under his belt as Everton prepares for the new Premier League season next month.

He said: “It will be good to catch up with the lads.

“I am buzzing to be back and I am just looking forward to playing any sort of game and train with the lads again.

“I am feeling really good and just looking forward to the game on Tuesday and hopefully I can get some time on the pitch.”
